Kick the Habit- How To De-Clutter Your Home (Part One)

Spring is most definitely in full swing, and we’re willing to bet a lot of you reading this still haven’t quite got round to the annual spring clean yet.

If you have decided that enough is enough, and that being surrounded by stuff you don’t even look at anymore (let alone use!) is getting a bit too much, it’s time to get de-cluttering!

Man throwing out a stinky bag of trash

Stop! Before you grab that bin bag and just shovel all your “junk” into it! What if we told you that there are people who want to buy your so-called “rubbish”?

In this guide, we are going to take you though how to salvage some cash from your unwanted items, and gain a bit more space in your house at the same time!

Determine an Item’s Value

It’s easy to look at an item and see what remember how much you initially paid for it brand new. This can make it hard to either see the value of it in its current condition, or let go of it altogether.

Brand New Retail Value

To get an idea of how much the retail value of the item would be now is a good way to judge how popular the item is currently and how easy it is to obtain. Brand new items that are hard to find will generally cost a lot to buy brand new, and it’s something to keep in mind when looking at selling your item.

Used Sale Value

As you will probably be selling your item as “used”;even if it is in pristine condition, you can’t sell it as brand new if you have used it, it’s a good idea to look at what other people are selling the same item for.

The condition of the item will affect how much an item will cost, so try and find an item in a similar condition to yours to figure out a guide price.

Determine Your Selling Price

If you are lucky enough to be trying to sell an item which is hard to come by new and in good condition-congratulations! Many people want good quality items for the fraction of a price, and with some brands dictating their brand new retail value prices, a used, like new item with a lower price becomes a very attractive option…but only if it’s priced right!

Buyers won’t want to pay full retail price for a used item, but they will be willing to pay a little less. Try to figure out a reasonable balance between the condition of your item and how much you would be willing to pay for the item in its current condition.

pocket money

Items which are easy to find pre-owned are a tiny bit harder to sell on, but don’t give up hope! There is someone out there who wants to buy your item, regardless of the popularity or lack of in the pre-owned market.
